Starting Off the Season…Naked

The Go Naked Ironman BBQ

The Go Naked Ironman BBQ

This weekend  Team Canada BBQ will be driving down to The Go Naked BBQ Show in Greencastle Pennsylvania to compete against 49 other teams in a  ironman style BBQ event.  For anyone unsure of an ironman event it means there will be no power permitted and every team will only be able to cook 1 brisket, 1 pork shoulder, 1 rack of ribs and 7 pieces of chicken!  Many professional BBQ teams often cook 2 or more briskets and pork shoulders, 4 or more racks of ribs and up to 20 pieces of chicken for their turn ins. So with no power and limited amounts of meat this will truly be a test of who’s  BBQ is reigns supreme.

So why is Team Canada BBQ making the trip to the USA for an event like this? We all need to dust off the BBQ cob webs after a long cold winter and get ready for Memphis in May World Championship BBQ Cooking Contest. Even though this isn’t a whole hog event like Memphis in May, we will pulling together all of our BBQ knowledge to run our smokers for the length of the event with out the help of any digital assistance. So no BBQ Guru’s, or in pit thermometers. This also means our work horses the Louisiana Grills Super Hog cookers will be staying at home. Instead the team will be using one of our new smokers the Meadow Creek SQ36 to cook our brisket, rack of ribs and pork shoulder. Yes only 1 each!
